WATSONVILLE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Granite Construction Incorporated (NYSE: GVA) announced today that a
Granite-led joint venture project, the Intercounty Connector (ICC), was
awarded the 2012 Alliant Build America Award by the Associated General
Contractors of America (AGC) at their Annual Convention in Honolulu,
Hawaii. The award recognizes the nation's most impressive construction
projects of 2011.
"Granite is honored to receive this prestigious award by the AGC," said
Michael Donnino, senior vice president and group manager for Granite
Construction Incorporated. "The strong relationships developed with the
owner, partners and local community helped us create common project
goals and drive the projects' success."
The joint venture team, comprised of Granite, G.A. & F.C. Wagman, Inc.
and Corman Construction, was one of 16 teams recognized with the 2012
Alliant Build America Award. The Granite-led team was noted for its
ability to work closely with partners, teams and owners by communicating
effectively, leading by example and for implementing innovative
solutions.
Contract A of the ICC Project in Montgomery Country, Maryland consisted
of 7.2 miles of controlled access tri-lane divided highway, featuring 18
steel or precast girder bridges and a signature arch bridge over one of
the most environmentally sensitive areas in the D.C. Metro Region. The
joint venture team brought on an environmental team to monitor water
quality, reforestation, air quality, construction noise and spill
prevention. Throughout the project, the team held more than 100
community meetings and public outreach hearings to provide updates and
special information for the approximately 10,000 residents within 500
feet aligning the corridor.
"The foundation of any successful project is teamwork," said Kristine
Young, AGC president. "When you have a group of dedicated, skilled
people working together to achieve the same goal, anything is possible."
In addition, two Granite projects, the Interstate 880/State Route 92
Interchange Reconstruction Project, in Hayward, California, a joint
venture with Flatiron, and the State Route 202L, Interstate 10 High
Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) Lanes Design Build project in Chandler, Arizona,
a joint venture with Pulice Construction, each received the prestigious
Marvin M. Black Excellence in Partnering Special Recognition Award.
